What happens at a first consultation?
A first visit is mainly assessment and discussion: an examination of your teeth and gums, x-rays where they are needed, a conversation about your concerns and medical history, and then an explanation of the realistic options. You should leave understanding what is going on and what the choices are.
What should I bring with me?
Bring any recent x-rays, scans or treatment plans you already have, a list of medicines you take, and details of any medical conditions. If you wear a denture, bring it even if you no longer use it.
Can I get a second opinion on a plan from another clinic?
Yes, and it is a normal request. Bring the written plan and any imaging with you so the assessment is based on the same information.

What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a small post, usually titanium, placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once bone has healed around it, the implant supports a crown, bridge or denture. It replaces the tooth without relying on the neighbouring teeth for support.
Are dental implants painful?
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so the area is numb and you should not feel pain during it. Afterwards, soreness and some swelling for a few days is normal and is usually managed with ordinary pain relief. Pain that increases after two to three days should be reported to the clinic.
How long do dental implants last?
Implants are intended as a long-term replacement and many function for well over a decade. Longevity depends on the health of the gum and bone around the implant, daily cleaning, smoking, general health and how much biting force it takes. No specific lifespan can be guaranteed.
How long does implant treatment take?
Placing an implant is usually a single appointment, but the overall treatment is measured in months because the bone needs time to heal around the implant before the final tooth is fitted. Bone grafting or gum treatment beforehand extends the timeline further.
What are the alternatives to dental implants?
The main alternatives are a bridge, which uses the teeth either side of the gap for support, and a denture, which is removable. Leaving the gap is also an option in some situations, most often for a tooth at the very back of the arch.
What is the difference between implants and dentures?
Implants are fixed into the jawbone and stay in place; dentures rest on the gums and are removed for cleaning. Dentures are quicker and less invasive, while implants generally feel closer to a natural tooth when chewing. Implants can also be used to hold a denture firmly in place.
How much does dental implant treatment cost?
The cost depends on how many implants are needed, what is fitted on top, and whether preparatory treatment such as an extraction or bone grafting is required. Can I have implants if I have been missing teeth for years?

What is a root canal?
Root canal treatment removes infected or damaged tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and disinfects the space, and seals it so the tooth can stay in the mouth rather than being extracted. It is carried out under local anaesthetic, and back teeth are usually protected with a crown afterwards.
When should I see a dentist for bleeding gums?
Book an appointment if bleeding continues for more than a week or two despite cleaning properly, or sooner if there is swelling, pain, bad breath, receding gums or looseness. Healthy gums do not usually bleed, and the early stage of gum disease is the reversible one.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
A root-treated tooth has less internal structure and is more brittle, so back teeth in particular are commonly crowned to reduce the risk of fracture. Skipping it can turn a restorable tooth into one that has to be removed.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Whitening carried out after a dental examination, using properly fitted trays or in-clinic application, is a well-established treatment. Temporary sensitivity is common. The greater risk is whitening without an examination, because it can be applied over untreated problems.
Can crooked teeth be fixed without braces?
The appearance of mild irregularity can sometimes be improved with bonding or veneers, but genuinely moving teeth requires orthodontic treatment. Using veneers to mask significant misalignment usually means removing a lot of healthy tooth.
How often should I have a dental check-up?
It depends on your own risk rather than a fixed rule. Your dentist should recommend an interval based on your gum condition, decay risk and history.

Why are prices not published on the website?
Because a meaningful figure depends on what is found at your examination — the number of teeth involved, the materials suitable for your case, and whether preparatory treatment is needed. Publishing a single number would mislead more people than it helped. An itemised written estimate is provided instead.
What should a treatment estimate include?
It should list the teeth involved, the procedures planned, the number of appointments, any imaging, what is excluded, and the payment schedule. Ask for it in writing.
Do you offer instalments or EMI?
Payment methods and any instalment arrangements are confirmed directly by the clinic, so please ask during your consultation to get an accurate and current answer.
Will my insurance cover dental treatment?
Dental coverage varies considerably between policies, and many exclude or limit treatments such as implants. Check your policy wording and ask the clinic what documentation can be provided for a claim.

How many visits will I need if I am travelling?
It depends on the treatment. Some work can be completed in a short stay; implant treatment usually cannot, because the healing period sits between appointments. This is why planning before you travel matters.
What reports should I send in advance?
Recent x-rays or a CBCT scan if you have one, any written treatment plan or quote, clear photographs of the area if easy to take, and a list of medical conditions and medicines.
Can treatment be planned around a short trip?
Sometimes, and sometimes it has to be staged across two trips. What can honestly be done in the time available is something to establish before you book flights, not after.
